Children's Dentistry
The team at Meadowcrest Dental Centre recognize the pivotal importance of oral health from the earliest of ages. Children’s dental needs are of particular significance, as they define how a child’s oral health will evolve through adulthood. Future oral health problems can often be warded off with early treatment and corrective measures. Our focus on children’s dentistry is indisputable and you will feel that from the moment you enter our children’s dental portion of our office. To recognize possible problems and work on prevention, we recommend that you bring your children into the office as their new teeth are starting to erupt, likely just before their first birthday. As your children reach the age of three, they will likely have their primary teeth, twenty in total. The development of your children’s permanent teeth will soon follow, making regular dental visits extremely important to supervise and ensure proper development. We understand that visiting the dentist at a young age can be an exciting experience. There’s new faces, new sounds, unfamiliar surroundings…and that’s all before you even sit in ‘the chair’. At our dental office your child’s comfort is a priority. Years of experience with children in a dental environment has helped us to create a smooth and relaxed dental experience. An early introduction to the dental office will help to ease future anxiety, as well as promote the best smile your child can have, one tooth at a time.
Veneers
Do you want your teeth to be straighter, whiter, more aligned? Would you cover your stained slightly crooked or gapped teeth to make them appear flawless? If you feel that your smile isn’t all that you would like it to be, then Veneers may be the solution for you! Veneers are a Cosmetic Procedure that is highly effective at creating the appearance of straight, proportioned white teeth. Veneers are custom, porcelain facings that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. They are made to match the shape and size of your mouth and created at the whiteness level that you desire. To perform the procedure the thickness of the veneer is “smoothed” off the natural tooth surface and the veneer is bonded to the tooth. The result feels and looks natural.
Bonding
If your teeth are slightly crooked, misshaped or discoloured there is likely no need for a drastic correction. Improvements in the strength and durability of dental materials have made many cosmetic enhancements possible. One such technique that has become quite popular is ‘bonding’ using a composite resin. Bonding can be used to cover flaws by first applying a thin coating on the front surface of your teeth to which the bonding is applied. Bonding can be sculpted, coloured and shaped to provide a natural looking finish without the time and invasiveness of other procedures. Bonding has become a common procedure and is usually completed in one short visit.
Bridges
If you’re missing a tooth in the back of your mouth, ‘out of site out of mind’ is not the adage that should think of. Perhaps ‘a chain is only as strong as its weakest link’ would be more appropriate.
Aside from the discomfort that can come with a missing tooth, there are other problems that result. To start with, the tooth that was there acted as a place holder keeping other teeth from shifting. Without that tooth the surrounding teeth may move affecting your visible smile as well as causing the gums and neighboring teeth to become far more susceptible to decay and gum disease.
One of the solutions we can offer for patients missing teeth is called a dental bridge.
A dental bridge is a false tooth that can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges can do many things, including reducing your risk of gum disease, help to correct minor bite issues and can even improve your speech. The false tooth acts as place holder to avoid the shifting of other teeth, helps to maintain your oral health as well as protect the appearance of your smile.
Crowns
A crown is a covering that sits over the top of the tooth creating a tooth surface to protect, cover, seal and strengthen your tooth. Crowns are used in many different scenarios as they are effective and often allow us to save a tooth rather than turning to implants.
White Fillings
Do you have silver fillings in your smile? Do they cause you to hide your teeth when you speak? Are you allergic to metallic fillings? Amalgam or metallic filling were the standard practice until not so long ago in dentistry. The amalgam was needed for its strength, especially on chewing surfaces and for large cavities. While these fillings made the cavity completely obvious, the material which they are composed of can corrode and leak, blackening the silver, and often the tooth. If you’re unhappy with the silver in your smile, talk to us about white fillings. White or Composite fillings are made of a porcelain-like material that actually bonds to the tooth for a tight seal. The material is strong enough for chewing surfaces and lacks the sensitivity associated with amalgam fillings. Cosmetically, white fillings are stain-resistant and colour-matched to your natural tooth making the almost invisible.
Whitening
With the rise in popularity “Cosmetic Procedures” whitening has gained much attention. As a dental procedure, whitening offers a quick, effective means to enhance a smile that has discoloured. Modern dentistry recognized the importance of your smile being healthy as well as beautiful. There is no reason for discolouration of your teeth to be holding back your smile. There are many in-office and over the counter whitening systems, each with varying effectiveness, time involved and a wide range of prices. If your teeth have dulled, yellowed or have become stained the team at Meadowcrest Dental Centre would be pleased to discuss your Whitening options with you
